Position Overview

Pay Range: $15-17/hour (commensurate with experience)
Hours: Full-time during June 8-26 and July 6-24
Reports To: Program Manager & Head Counselor
Supervises: Summer Campers 

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Camp Counselors to join our team for an exciting summer camp experience. As a Camp Counselor, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children. You will be responsible for supervising campers, leading activities, and fostering personal growth and development through various programs. Ideal candidates will have a passion for working with children and possess skills in education, sports coaching, or the arts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and teach children of diverse ages and backgrounds in an outdoor setting.
  • Implement weekly curriculum, including games, songs, crafts and activities.
  • Communicate a love, enthusiasm and interest for all things found in nature, including insects, spiders and reptiles and have a willingness to immerse themselves in nature.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for Teen Volunteers assisting with the program.
  • Interact in a kind and respectful manner with parents, campers, and staff and other park visitors.
  • Appropriately manage behavior challenges and conflict with a sense of respect for young people and a focus on developing the social emotional health of campers.
  • Confidentially manage camper information.
  • Attend mandatory training and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Prepare materials and maintain a clean and orderly programming space in and around the MEC.
  • Adhere to and enforce all LC Nature Park policies, program standards, and local health and safety regulations.
  • May be required to perform other duties on request.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old and completed High School
  • Experience working with children.
  • Strong emotional and mental health. Must be adaptable and exhibit good judgment to determine what is in the best interest of the campers in their care.
  • Ability to work well within a cohesive team of camp and facility staff.
  • Excellent social and communication skills.
  • Support the organization’s mission and vision with integrity, dependability, and accountability.
  • Demonstrate passion for serving youth, encouraging campers to explore through play and creating a space where youth feel included and a sense of belonging.
  • Fully participate in all activities, including staff training activities.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations appropriately, maintaining mental, emotional, and social resilience needed for the job in a fast-paced, interactive environment.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Physical Aspects of the Job

This position will require bending, stooping, walking long distances across rugged terrain and prolonged standing. This position involves daily exposure to sun, heat, dust, and animals, including wild animals and those maintained at the park.

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of Campers.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required. (LCNP will reimburse for certification.)
