This month’s Saturday Sprouts program celebrates the beauty of falling leaves! Young learners will discover leaves important role in nature. They’ll learn how fallen leaves provide homes for wildlife, enrich the soil, and help forests stay healthy.
The session includes a hike to observe the changing colors of the season and collect interesting leaves and other natural treasures from around the park. Learners will enjoy a reading of Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert before creating their own unique Leaf Man using the leaves and natural materials they found during their exploration. They’ll also enjoy a fun, themed snack that connects to the morning’s activities.
Please Note: This will require a longer hike than usual to collect leaves and other items found on the ground around the park. Please make sure your child is ready to hike no matter the weather! This includes appropriate shoes and clothing.
Through storytelling, nature exploration, and creative crafting, this program encourages children to appreciate the beauty of fall and discover the many wonders that falling leaves bring to our environment.
