We are surrounded by wild food!
Learn about Indiana's native wild edible plants with wild food forager Carrie Vrabel.
We will take a walk around the park and identify edible species and discuss how humans have used them throughout history for food and medicine. You'll even have the opportunity to taste one or two!
Carrie teaches foraging and wild edible plant ID regularly at state, county, and city parks across northern Indiana and organizations, including PFW and Little River Wetlands Project. She is certified by the states of Indiana and Michigan as a wild mushroom identification expert and is the founder of Wild Edible Indiana (www.wildedibleindiana.com).

So many ways to enjoy your Friday evening. The best way is at LCNP!

Trillium Fest!
Last year we had more than 1,000 guests attend and we expect even more for our 3rd Annual Trillium Fest. This free event highlights the native trillium flower found along our trails in the spring. Join us for a morning of camaraderie, discovery, and adventure about all things elk! Elk are one of the largest species of deer known for their impressive antlers, commonly grown and shed by male elk, or bulls, each year.
Meet and learn about our herd, enjoy a hike thru the park, and help us hunt for antlers to add to our ever-growing collection. (Note: You do not get to keep the antlers you find - but we do have antler tip prizes!)

Watch selections from Ken Burns' most recent film, The American Buffalo, and experience the companion short film, Homecoming, at LC Nature Park with our bison and elk grazing in the background.
Our panel will consist of John Brooks (LC Nature Park Founder), Howard (Skip) Balkenbusch (LC Nature Park Board Member), Doug Peconge (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma), and Logan York (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma). A bonus screening of the short film "Homecoming" will also be included, featuring the movement of herds of bison being rightfully returned to the tribes who revered them.

🐦October BIG DAY
This day is for the birds!
October Big Day is a 24-hour event that allows people to participate in bird research. This is a state-wide event hosted by Indiana Audubon and the Indiana Land Protection Alliance (ILPA) in conjunction with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Last October, nearly 35,000 people from 185 countries submitted 80,000 checklists! Birds really bring people together!

🌳OAK-tober Tree ID Program
Master the art of identifying trees using a special dichotomous (2-part) key for Indiana's native trees. Then, take a hike with us and apply your newfound expertise in identifying some of the trees within the park! Bonus, learn how to plant a tree as we plant some oak trees on the park grounds.
