Camp Instructor
Position Purpose
To further the mission of LC Nature Park through the operation of the LC Summer Day Camp program.
Essential Job Functions
Care for and manage children of diverse ages and backgrounds.
Safely lead camp activities that meet the needs of Campers.
Provide leadership and guidance for Youth Volunteers assisting with the program.
Coordinate camp activities with LC Nature Park staff, contractors, volunteers, and consultants.
Interact in a kind and respectful manner with parents, Campers, and staff, including customer service and disciplinary issues.
Manage camper information.
Attend necessary training.
Attend and contribute to weekly staff planning meetings.
Maintain and prepare camp resources and supplies.
Adhere to and enforce all LC Nature Park policies, program standards, and local health and safety regulations.
May be required to perform other duties on request.
Qualifications
Experience teaching a diverse array of students in an informal setting.
Strong commitment to teaching and sharing an appreciation for nature.
Ability to work well within a cohesive team of camp and facility staff.
Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive, upbeat, energetic manner.
Ability to manage conflict and resolve problems.
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and take necessary action.
Ability to adapt to changing situations such as weather and personnel.
At least 18 years old.
High school diploma; some college preferred.
Excellent social, communication, and writing skills.
Ability to pass criminal background check.
Physical Aspects of the Job
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of Campers.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
This position may require bending, stooping, walking long distances, or prolonged standing. This position involves daily exposure to sun, heat, dust, and animals including wild animals and those maintained at the park.
Certifications and Licenses
Valid drivers’ license with clean driving record.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Relationships
The LC Summer Day Camp Instructor will report to the LC Nature Park Camp Director, and have relationships with other Camp Instructors, volunteers, facilities staff, and Board members.
Equipment Used
The LC Summer Day Camp Instructor may be required to drive a utility cart over rough terrain; manipulate gates, locks, and other outdoor equipment; and communicate over two-way radios.
Position, Wage, Duration, and Hours
This position pays $15/hour.
This is a temporary, seasonal position lasting approximately 6 weeks from early June to mid-July.
The LC Summer Day Camp Instructor will work approximately 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend, evening or holiday work may be required.
