Experience the breathtaking beauty of LCNP in autumn during our October Public Hike.
The kaleidoscope of red, orange, and yellow foliage will mesmerize you as you travel the vibrant trails. Enjoy the crisp air as it fills your lungs and the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot during this October adventure.
This hike lasts about 90-120 minutes and travels 1.3 miles.

🐦October BIG DAY
October Big Day is a 24-hour event that allows people to participate in bird research. This is a state-wide event in conjunction with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Last October, nearly 36,332 people from 191 countries submitted 83,735 checklists! Birds really bring people together.

Fireside Friday! 10/11, 7:30 – 9:30 pm Join us for a relaxing evening around the campfire with music by Bobcat Opossum. Enjoy some brews or a glass of wine while enjoying the open space complete with s’mores. Sean and Ellen of FW’s Debutants draw inspiration and repertoire from traditional music across several genres including Irish, Americana, bluegrass, classical, and old time music. $20 pp–$15, LCNP members. Nature Explorers ramps back up for naturalists aged 3–5 with their adults.
Through stories, activities, and observations, we will marvel at the fascinating early stages of life that occur in nature.

And what campfire wouldn't be complete with s’mores? Hike or take our Safari Cart through the lush woods to the Trillium Tent. This month, we will feature guitarist, vocalist, and gig-monster John Reichle. Reichle has been an active musician since picking up a guitar at age 11. This will be his 58th year of picking strings. His playlists cover everything from folk rock, yacht rock, hard rock, blues, and country.

This Nature Explorers is designed for your little ones to discover the enchanting lives of baby animals in their natural habitats. From the secretive nests of birds to the cozy dens of foxes, we'll uncover the wonders of how young wildlife thrives in the great outdoors. Through interactive stories, playful activities, and joyful observations, we will marvel at the fascinating early stages of life that occur in nature. It's an ideal adventure to spark curiosity and foster a deep appreciation for the natural world in the hearts of our young adventurers.

🍄Wild Edibles
We are surrounded by wild food!
Learn about Indiana's native wild edible plants with wild food forager Carrie Vrabel.
We will take a walk around the park and identify edible species and discuss how humans have used them throughout history for food and medicine. You'll even have the opportunity to taste one or two!
Carrie teaches foraging and wild edible plant ID regularly at state, county, and city parks across northern Indiana and organizations, including PFW and Little River Wetlands Project. She is certified by the states of Indiana and Michigan as a wild mushroom identification expert and is the founder of Wild Edible Indiana (www.wildedibleindiana.com).
