Teen Volunteer Camp Counselor
Teens ages 13-17 may apply to become a Volunteer Camp Counselor at Camp Trillium, a summer day camp for children ages 4-12. This program develops leadership and teamwork skills and gives teens a chance to explore careers and make new friends.
Teen Volunteer Camp Counselors should be friendly and outgoing, and eager to share their love of learning and the outdoors with young people aged 4-12. Volunteers will engage with young campers and assist Camp Trillium staff with daily duties, including activity setup, leading camp songs and games, and cleanup. Volunteers must commit to serving for two entire weeks of camp, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM, and attend a mandatory orientation meeting.
Teen Volunteer Camp Counselors are important members of the Camp Trillium team and help to provide an excellent experience for campers. Before beginning their service, volunteers will be asked to sign a Code of Conduct agreement outlining LC Nature Park policies and guidelines. These include arriving on time and serving your full shift each day that you are assigned; dressing appropriately and wearing a Camp Trillium uniform shirt (provided) each day; wearing closed-toe shoes each day; and bringing a lunch and water bottle each day. Cell phones may not be used during your volunteer shift, including texting. All areas of LC Nature Park are tobacco and vape-free.
Apply to become a Teen Volunteer Camp Counselor by May 1, 2022. We look forward to seeing you at LC Nature Park this summer!
Trail Guide
Lead tours and educational programs.
The Trail Guide volunteer responsibilities will include leading guests and tour groups on tours through all areas of the Park. This will require the guide to be familiar with all aspects of the Park (the different ecosystems, the flora and fauna, particularly the bison and elk), the Park’s goals and mission, and be able to successfully relay that information to guests of all ages. The Trail Guide applicant is required to fill out a volunteer application and have a completed background check on file prior to scheduling their first led tour or program as well as having completed training provided by LC Nature Park staff.
Nature Steward
These volunteer opportunities will be held from 9 am to 12 noon periodically throughout the year and will consist of activities like invasive species removal (honeysuckle, garlic mustard, etc.) and native seed collection.
Volunteers will not be required to fill out a volunteer application for this scheduled event but will have to sign a waiver. However, pre-registration is required. Training and sanitized equipment will be provided but feel free to bring your own pruners, loppers, etc. if you prefer. It is recommended that participants bring and wear their own gloves, long pants, comfortable closed-toe shoes or hiking boots, and water and snacks. We are also able to do scheduled park management outings for your group or organization outside. Just call 260.999.3153 or email at info@lcnaturepark.org to get started.
